3 Signs Your Workout Routine Needs an Upgrade

It happens all the time - you’ve been sticking to the same workouts for weeks, months, maybe even years, and while it feels comfortable, you realize something just isn’t quite right anymore. Perhaps you’re not seeing progress like you used to, or your workouts have begun to feel more like just going through the motions than something that actually challenges you and excites you. The truth is, even the best workout routines need a little refreshing from time to time.

If you’re questioning whether it’s time to level up your training or make some changes, here are three clear signs that your workout routine could use a shake-up.

1. You’re No Longer Seeing Results

When you first begin a workout routine, results usually come pretty quickly - whether that’s in the form of strength gains, weight loss, or improved flexibility or endurance. But over time, your body begins to adapt to the same movement patterns and intensity. If you’ve found yourself in a plateau and feel stuck when it comes to results like improvements in strength, muscle tone, or overall fitness, it’s a sign that your body is ready for a new challenge. Progressive overload, the gradual increase of weights, reps, or intensity over time, is key to continuing to see progress from your workout program.

In the beginning, progress often comes quickly—whether that’s strength gains, fat loss, or better endurance. But over time, your body adapts to the same movements and intensity. If you’ve hit

2. Your Workouts Feel Boring or Unmotivating

While we certainly cannot rely on motivation to keep us consistent with our workouts, it’s definitely a big part of the consistency formula. If you find yourself dreading your workouts or just pushing yourself to go through the motions, it might be a good time to switch up your routine. Mixing things up by adding new exercises, different training splits, or even a fresh workout style can help to reignite your excitement around your workouts. Fitness should challenge you while also keeping you engaged and energized. This doesn’t mean you’ll always feel excited to work out, but if you’re really struggling, it’s time to re-evaluate your routine.

3. You’re Feeling More Fatigue Than Energy

Your fitness routine should leave you feeling accomplished and energized, not constantly drained, sore, and burnt out. If you’ve noticed that you’re overly fatigued, not recovering well, or dealing with chronic nagging aches and pains, then it could indicate that your routine is unbalanced. This often looks like too much cardio or HIIT, not enough strength training days, neglecting recovery days, or overtraining certain muscle groups. With an upgraded routine that prioritizes balance and the needs of women’s bodies over 35, you can find your fitness sweet spot that allows you to both train hard and recover well.

Final Thoughts

Just like your body is always evolving, so should your fitness routine. If you’re not seeing results, you’re feeling bored or uninspired, or you’re struggling with energy, it might be time to make a change in your routine. The good news is that you don’t need to overhaul everything all at once. Sometimes even the smallest changes can make the biggest difference, like going from 5 days per week to 4 or swapping your body part split routine for a full body plan.

If you’re ready for a plan that grows with you and provides plenty of opportunities for customization, the Simply Strong App was designed to help you train smarter, stay motivated, and keep making progress month after month. No more second-guessing your plan, feeling burnt out, or struggling with consistency.
