Have you ever wondered why some people seem to make progress consistently while others seem to always be struggling? It’s not luck, genetics, or super-human willpower; it’s about how they approach their health and fitness.
Over the years, coaching countless women, I have noticed patterns in the clients who get the best, most consistent results. They do things differently. Not because they’re special or they possess something that you don’t have, but because they focus on the right habits and mindset. Today, I’m going to share with you exactly what sets my clients who achieve their goals apart from those who struggle so that you can use these strategies to finally see real, lasting results.
My most successful clients don’t chase perfection; they simply show up consistently. I know this sounds overly simplistic, but it’s the truth. Whether they hit most of their workouts each week, eat balanced meals most of the time, or focus on prioritizing their protein intake with every meal, it’s the small, consistent steps that add up to results over time.
Trying to do everything perfectly all the time isn’t sustainable. Momentum is. And my clients who get this know that progress over time beats the “all-or-nothing” thinking all the time. Fitness and nutrition are not “black and white.” There’s a lot of gray area, but so long as you’re showing up with consistency, you’ll win.
My most successful clients are the ones who set realistic goals that are achievable and actionable. Instead of making a drastic or bold declaration like “I’m never going to eat sugar again,” they focus on more sustainable habits like adding protein to every meal, walking after dinner, or strength training 3x per week.
When you realize that the bold, over-the-top declarations only last for so long before they become difficult to sustain, you can then lean into healthy lifestyle habits that you can actually show up for consistently. When making goals, ask yourself: “Is this something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life?” If the answer is no, then it’s not realistic and it won’t be something you can stick with.
My clients who maintain realistic plans eliminate decision fatigue, hold themselves accountable, and have learned to celebrate progress and success week after week. And they know that progress won’t happen every single week and that there is no “finish line” when it comes to your health and fitness. This is a lifelong venture, so you may as well buckle up and enjoy the ride.
My most successful clients know that building muscle and fueling their bodies properly is an absolute non-negotiable. Strength training is a regular part of their routine, not just an afterthought or something they do when they feel like it. And protein is included in every meal to support satiety, energy, and weight loss.
Successful, committed clients understand that strength training and protein aren’t just for aesthetics (although that’s a great benefit), they’re for building and maintaining a strong, healthy, and capable body as they age.
Clients with continued success will measure their behaviors as well as their outcomes. Instead of obsessing over the scale all the time, they track their workouts, total weight lifted, protein intake, steps, etc. They keep tabs on their habits, not just the number on the scale.
Tracking isn’t about perfection or being obsessive; it’s about accountability and celebrating small wins along the way. If you’re looking for them, you’re sure to notice little victories that will help to build your confidence and keep you showing up for yourself.
Trying to do it all on your own is a surefire way to feel discouraged and lose momentum. My clients who check in, share wins, or lean on me and the rest of the community are far more motivated and consistent than those who don’t.
I know sharing publicly can feel very intimidating, but doing so is a hack for consistency. Inside the Simply Strong App, community is a huge part of what keeps us motivated, engaged, and consistent. While many of us prefer to be a fly on the wall (myself included), it’s insanely beneficial to share your wins, struggles, and daily consistency - not only for your own benefit, but for the benefit of others. The more we see others showing up and doing the work, the more we feel encouraged to do the same.
Life will always be happening around us, which means that workouts will be missed, vacations will be had, schedules will get hectic, meals will be sub-par, etc. My most successful clients know that these things will happen and that the key to not falling off the wagon completely is to just jump back in by making the next best decision.
My most consistent clients know to pivot and not quit. This can look like swapping a strength training workout for a quick walk, prepping meals in advance to stay on point during a busy week, or getting right back into their habits and routines following an off day or week. The key mindset here is: flexibility plus consistency equals long-term success and results.
The secret to being successful isn’t any kind of magic; it’s habits, mindset, and consistency showing up for some sustainable, common-sense habits.
If you’re struggling right now, I want you to start by choosing a small habit to commit to today. Before you know it, you’ll start to see and feel momentum growing quickly. And before long, you’ll see how your small, consistent choices lead to big wins and lasting results. One baby step at a time, you’ve got this!
