Simply Strong vs. Fitbod

Quick Summary

Simply Strong App offers trainer-led and supported progressive overload workout programs for women, and Fitbod App offers AI-Generated workouts customized to each user's unique needs.

If you’re a woman looking for a reliable strength training program, you’ve probably heard of both the Fitbod App and the Simply Strong App. Both of these workout programs help to simplify and take the guesswork out of strength training, but they vary greatly in approach.

One focuses on structured strength training designed for women. The other uses AI to generate workouts based on your equipment and goals. Neither approach is necessarily better; the right fit will depend on what helps you to stay consistent and engaged.

Workout Philosophy

One of the biggest differences between Simply Strong and Fitbod is how the workouts are delivered. Fitbod uses AI-generated workouts that will adapt based on your previous sessions, the equipment you have available to you, and your recovery data. Your workout might be different every day based on these factors, but progressive overload is still a key component of Fitbod’s training system.

Simply Strong follows a structured workout program that’s designed around progressive overload. Instead of generating a completely new workout every day, workouts are programmed to build over time.

This means:

  • Repeated movement patterns
  • Planned progressions
  • Structured workout splits
  • Clear sets, reps, and rest periods

Coach-Designed Workouts Vs. AI-Driven Workouts

One of the biggest differences between Simply Strong and Fitbod goes beyond how workouts are created; it’s about the overall experience, and this tends to make a huge difference for women, especially.

Fitbod has a very advanced algorithm that utilizes the power of AI to program workouts that are adaptive and individualized. Simply Strong follows a coach-designed program that’s created by a real trainer with intentional structure and progression built in. But the difference isn’t just AI vs. human programming; it’s support.

When using the Simply Strong App, you’re not just opening an app and being given a workout recommendation for the day; you’re following a program that was designed by a real person with the goals and needs of midlife women in mind. And you have direct access to support, community, and connection at all times.

With Simply Strong, you're not just opening an app and receiving a workout recommendation. You’re following a program designed by a real person, and you have access to support, community, and connection along the way.

  • Ask workout-related questions
  • Get support when they feel stuck
  • Connect with other women on similar journeys
  • Learn the "why" behind the programming
  • Feel part of a community, not just a platform

There is absolutely nothing wrong with AI-generated fitness (it’s actually pretty cool!). And, for some women, that level of customization is exactly what they want. But many women, especially those in midlife and beyond, are looking for more than just an algorithm; they want support and connection, and they want to know that there’s a real person behind the program.

While I am sure Fitbod offers wonderful customer service, there isn’t a specific trainer programming the workouts that users would be able to turn to for questions or to get support.

Workout Splits and Programming Structure

Another major difference between Simply Strong and Fitbod is the overall workout structure.

Simply Strong follows intentional workout splits designed to train all major muscle groups throughout the week while allowing for recovery and flexibility.

Inside Simply Strong, women can choose from:

  • 3-day full body workouts
  • 3-day split training
  • 4-day split training
  • 5-day splits with a full-body conditioning day

This gives women flexibility on workout frequency while still following a structured progression plan.

Fitbod offers more of an open-ended customization plan. Users can select workout frequency, available equipment, and goals, and the app generates workouts based on those inputs. For some, that flexibility and customization feels exciting and super tailored. Others prefer to follow the same training split week after week, knowing exactly what workout day of the week it is.

Home Workouts vs Gym Flexibility

Fitbod was built to work across a variety of environments, both home and gym, while also be tailored to your specific equipment availability. This is handy because a lot of people have access to some gym equipment at home, but not a full gym.

Depending on your setup, workouts may include:

  • Gym machines
  • Barbells
  • Cable equipment
  • Dumbbells
  • Home equipment

Simply Strong was designed specifically for women training at home, there is no use of gym machines or gym equipment. Workouts in the Simply Strong App include:

  • Dumbbells
  • Resistance bands
  • A bench or chair or other sturdy surface

This type of programming can be especially helpful for women who don't have a home gym setup or who want effective workouts without needing lots of equipment.

Midlife and Sustainability

For most women, somewhere along the way, they notice that fitness in midlife feels very different from what it did in their twenties and early thirties. At this stage of life, more workouts doesn’t always equal better results and harder workouts don’t automatically mean more effective.

Many women over 35 are balanced careers, kids, changing hormones, stress, and very limited time, which is why sustainability matters so much during this phase of life.

Simply Strong focuses heavily on:

  • Realistic workout lengths (30-45 minutes)
  • Strength-focused programming
  • Recovery-friendly structure
  • Progressive overload
  • Consistency over intensity

The goal isn't to feel destroyed after every workout; it’s to always be progressing.

The Bottom Line

Both Simply Strong and Fitbod help remove workout guesswork out of getting results from structured strength training, so from that regard, you really can’t go wrong with either fitness app.

However, your decision will probably come down to the delivery of the workouts. If you enjoy AI-driven recommendations, extensive customization, and workouts that are built based on your specific equipment available, Fitbod might be a great fit for you.

If you prefer workouts that are designed specifically for women and are built and supported by a real trainer with whom you can connect, Simply Strong might feel like a better fit.

The best workout app is not necessarily the one with the coolest features; it’s the one that you can see yourself being the most consistent with.
